The UK is set to bask in 33C heat as a mini-heatwave hits the country, according to a new forecast. Some 30 counties will enjoy temperatures above 30C, mainly in the Midlands and south of England, while the rest of the UK will enjoy highs of up to 26C.
According to weather maps by WXCHARTS, at 6pm on Tuesday, June 24, London will soar to the highest temperature in the UK – a scorching 33C. The surrounding areas of Kent, Essex, Oxford, and Bath will bake between 30C and 32C, while temperatures exceeding 30C will be enjoyed right up to Nottingham. Birmingham and the Midlands are forecast to have a toasty maximum of 32C.
Further north in Manchester it will still reach 30C, according to the forecast, but on the west coast, the mercury drops to around 21C. Newcastle will enjoy a pleasant 23C.
Edinburgh has been forecast a balmy 21C, but further north in Aberdeen, it will drop to a cooler 16C.
The majority of Wales will bask in sunny weather set to stay above 26C, including in the capital, Cardiff. The hottest temperature will be felt close to the border in the region of Powys.
Temperatures will drop slightly in Northern Ireland, where it is forecast to range from 17C to a pleasant 23C. Belfast could sit in the middle at around 20C.
The Met Office long-range forecast from June 23 to July 7 said: “High pressure looks like being largely dominant at first, maintaining plenty of mainly dry and warm weather, but with variable cloud amounts.
“Temperatures are likely to be a little above average overall, with brief hot spells possible, these perhaps more likely early in the period.”
It said late June and early July look changeable, with spells of rain or showers probable, and some could be heavy and thundery.
