Met Office weather alerts are in effect across the country, including an amber warning, as Britain braces for wind, rain, and flooding on New Year’s Day.

Yellow and amber warnings for wind and rain issued by the government agency are in place for much of Wales, northwest England, Yorkshire, the East Midlands, and southern England, with a warning for snow ice in effect in northern Scotland.

Meanwhile, the Environment Agency (EA) has issued over 100 flood warnings in England, most of which are in the North West.

Now, 11 flood warnings are also active for north Wales, with 32 warnings for Scotland.

It comes as events celebrating the arrival of 2025 were cancelled following the amber alert, though events in Manchester and London took place as planned.

The Met Office warned there was a “slight chance” of buildings being damaged and power cuts amid powerful winds, with gusts possibly as high as 75mph.
