The UK is braced for a barrage of snow in the coming weeks. The latest weather maps from forecaster WXCharts show a blizzard hitting the nation, with a total of 41 cities expected to see snowfall.
The maps show the snow arriving at 12pm on Monday, January 26. The white stuff is expected to settle across the nation, with some parts of Scotland set to see up to 60cm of snow. Meanwhile, temperatures are expected to plunge as low as -7C in some areas.
According to the maps, a band of snowfall will stretch from London to the north of Scotland, covering 41 UK cities. These include major cities such as London, Birmingham, Manchester, Newcastle, Edinburgh and Glasgow.
WXCharts also expects the snow to settle across the UK, with central Scotland set to see up to 60cm of the white stuff on the ground. In England, Newcastle could see around 7cm while Manchester is set for 5cm and Birmingham could have 3cm on the ground.
The snow blizzard will bring freezing temperatures, with the mercury expected to plummet to -7C in central Scotland at 12pm on January 26. Meanwhile, Newcastle could see temperatures of -5C, Manchester of -4C, and -2C in both Birmingham and London.
Temperatures will also be below freezing in the east of England, with lows of -4C expected in Cambridge. The South West is set to be the warmest region, with temperatures dropping to 8C in Plymouth.
The Met Office long-range forecast, which ranges from Saturday, January 17, until Monday, January 26, says areas of low pressure will sweep in from the Atlantic. This will cause rain showers across the majority of the UK, as well as potential wintry hazards.
The forecaster expects the colder weather to hit the north and east at the end of this period. Meanwhile, in the forecast running from Tuesday, January 27 until Tuesday, February 10, the Met Office adds that “there is the possibility of colder conditions and associated winter hazards at times, due to higher pressure extending from the north or east”.
