The UK is set to be plunged back into a period of cold, wintry weather as snow is expected to return in March.
Weathermaps from WXCharts turn purple next month as a 368-mile wall of snow could stretch across England and Scotland, covering at least 24 regions. Brits can expect to wake up to flurries on Monday 10 March as up to 5cm per hour is predicted.
From 6am, a line stretching from Birmingham to Cumbria will be blanketed in up to 1cm of snowfall hourly with western Scotland set to face the brunt of the white weather.
On the same day, eastern England can expect to see wet conditions with weathermaps highlighting the southeast in green, signalling heavy rainfall.
Wales and the southwest will dodge the swathes of snow and rain in the morning on March 10 yet a chilly feel will remain in the air.
Leading up to the pending snowfall, weather forecaster the Met Office reiterates a split in weather conditions across the country. Northwestern areas are likely to see spells of wetter conditions and stronger winds as Atlantic weather systems arrive from the west. However, the southeast can expect similar conditions too.
Unsettled conditions are expected to become more dominant in the lead up to the wall of snow with chances of night frosts and morning fog.
The Met Office’s long range weather forecast also says for the UK to expect spells of wet and windy weather throughout the rest of March as Atlantic weather systems move across the country. The northwest of the UK is predicted to see the “wettest and windiest conditions,” the forecaster says.
“Towards late March, the chance of settled spells developing more widely increases though changeable conditions remain most probable. Temperatures overall around or above average, though some short-lived colder spells remain possible,” the Met Office adds.
