A 561-mile polar blast is likely to hammer parts of the UK as the weather maps show seven cities witnessing cold weather conditions on January 25.

Weather maps from WXCharts prepared using Metdesk data have turned white for areas ranging from Aberdeen to Southhampton as a cold snap hits.

The latest maps come days after the UK recorded its coldest day at -18.9C at Altnaharra.

According to the weather maps, layers of snow are likely to accumulate in cities such as Aberdeen, Edinburgh, London, Birmingham, Newcastle, Manchester, and Southhampton.

Maps show that during the same period, the lowest temperatures would be observed in the northern parts of the country, with mercury levels hovering around 0 to 1C.

Meanwhile, Met Office’s long-range forecast between January 20 and 29 reads: “The early part of next week will see fairly quiet and for most, dry weather with variable amounts of cloud and often light winds.

“The greatest chance of any rain is likely to be in the far northwest of the UK, and possibly as well in the far south. There is a small chance rain could become more widespread, and temperatures are expected to be around average.

“Later in the week, periods of much wetter and windier weather will most likely eventually become more prevalent, from northwest to southeast. Ahead of this a colder, more settled southeasterly wind may develop for a time.

“There is a small chance, however, that alternatively, winds could turn much more easterly and colder, bringing the risk of snow showers.”

The Met Office added that it is likely to be cloudy at first and stay grey across central and southeastern England, with hill fog and patchy drizzle, whilst outbreaks of rain arrive across north and northwest Scotland, where it will also be windy.

By Thursday, it will be windy, with rain easing as it turns brighter for northwest Scotland. Clouds in the southeast may spread into Wales and southwest England. Dry with sunny spells are likely to be elsewhere after early fog clears.

There is some rain and often windy in the northwest from Friday to Sunday. It may remain mostly cloudy in central and southern England and sometimes Wales, with hill fog and patchy drizzle. Occasionally brighter elsewhere. The north may stay mild north, while the south may turn colder.
