UK weather maps show Brits will be hit by a barrage of snow this weekend with rain and wind also on the way.
Bitterly cold temperatures will sweep across the UK as the wintery weather hits.
The maps from WXCharts show that on Friday and Saturday, snow will fall over Scotland before heading south towards the north of England.
From 6pm on Friday until 3pm on Saturday, the UK will face blizzard-like conditions.
On Friday, snowfall will mainly be in Scotland but by 6pm on Friday, Newcastle, the Lake District and North Yorkshire could also be impacted.
The Met Office forecast says weather will turn “more unsettled […] with heavy rain and strong winds at times, particularly into the weekend with gales likely.”
On Friday at around 6pm, most of the UK will see rain with only a small patch of the south spared.
By Saturday morning, rain will hit Scotland and the north of England with snow also falling in the north of England but this time moving further down towards Manchester.
The latest maps show that up to 7cm of snow per hour could fall in a region of southern Scotland at around 3am on Saturday before spreading into northern parts of England as the day progresses.
Manwhile, the arrival of snow also sees the maps turn icy blue that could see temperatures plunge to as low as -6C just west of Aberdeen during the early hours of Saturday morning.
The Arctic blast that is to hit the UK in a matter of days will not last into next week, according to the Met Office, which says conditions will be more settled into next week.
The Met Office long range forecast says: “A spell of wet and windy weather is expected to impact many areas for a time into the coming weekend. Colder, showery and windy conditions then following for the remainder of the weekend.”
It continues to say next week, Brits will see “more settled conditions becoming established for a time. This should mean a good deal of dry weather with overnight frosts along with morning fog patches for some regions.”
