A cold snap is likely to hit parts of Britain in hours as the latest weather maps show areas from London to Scotland witnessing snowy conditions on February 11 (Tuesday).

According to the weather maps, wintry conditions will bring snow and ice in these areas as the temperature level plummets to -2C in a few parts of the country.

WXCharts maps based on Metdesk data show that areas such as Inverness, Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Newcastle, and London are likely to experience heavy snowfall on Tuesday.

The unsettling weather conditions are likely to hit around 12 midnight heading into Tuesday, the maps have shown. While other areas, Manchester and Birmingham, will see light snow showers, the maps suggest.

It comes as the Met Office forecasted that easterly winds are likely to develop over the coming days.

A yellow Cold-Health Alert has been issued by the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) for the South East of England, and parts of northern England. It is currently valid from 9am Friday (February 7) until 9am on the February 11.

Brian Gaze, founder of The Weather Outlook, wrote in his blog: “Tonight, the patchy outbreaks of rain and hill snow continue. Frost is most likely in the north and west where there is a better chance of breaks in the cloud.

“Tomorrow, it’s a very similar picture. Further showery spells of rain, sleet and hill snow are likely to be focused on central and eastern England. It will be cold in all areas.”

According to the Met Office, the UK will experience a cold air flow from the east/southeast due to high pressure over Scandinavia. Some light rain and hill snow may occur early in the week, mainly in the south, but drier weather is expected later.

The National Weather forecaster said: “The area of high pressure is expected to be centred over Scandinavia throughout next week and toward the middle of the month.

“This pattern leads to a cold, east or southeasterly air-flow across the UK.

“As mentioned, this will be accompanied by some light rain and hill snow early next week, mainly in the south of the UK, before drier conditions become established later in the week.”
