A blast of chilly weather is set to hit the UK this weekend with snow due to stretch from Aberdeen to Sheffield.
Latest weather maps from WXCHARTS show snow is forecast on February 16 – just in time for Valentine’s weekend.
The maps show that at midnight on February 16, most parts of Scotland and northern England will see snow.
In these areas, around 0.5cm of snow will fall per hour with a total depth of up to 2.5cm due to set on the ground.
As for the south of England, most areas will evade any rain or snow with large parts of the south due to see a dry weekend.
In Wales, only the north will see some snow but most of the country will remain largely free from wintery weather.
By 6am, the same areas will wake to snow with maps showing highest levels of snow will be seen around Manchester and Cumbria.
These areas will see around 4cm of snow depth.
The Met Office forecast says: “Southeasterly winds are likely at the start of this period. This will maintain below average temperatures and often cloudy conditions.”
It adds that there is a chance of colder conditions developing which would see more wintry showers, especially in the east.
The Met Office continues: “Meanwhile, Atlantic frontal zones, bringing milder conditions and rain, will attempt to move in from the west or southwest.
“Early in this period these look likely to have limited influence over the UK though should they push further northeastwards this would increase the chance of snow for some areas.”
Conditions for mid-February are expected to remain uncertain but towards the end of this period, milder wetter conditions will spread across the country.
This comes after 2025 began with a snowy start in January when hundreds of schools were forced to close due to icy conditions.
