Britons are set to enjoy a taste of spring as temperatures are predicted to soar by up to 20C in some areas. On Saturday, March 8, parts of the UK are expected to be warmer than Madrid, with highs of 16C forecast for southern and eastern regions.

This marks a significant increase from Wednesday’s chilly lows of -5C in Aboyne, Aberdeenshire, and -2.4C in Santon Downham, Suffolk. Advanced weather models indicate that the warmest day will be Saturday, March 8, when Madrid is only expected to reach 14C.

Furthermore, rain is predicted for the Spanish capital, while the UK is set to remain dry. The Met Office also anticipates a spell of fine weather.

In its forecast for March 3 to March 12, it states: “High pressure is likely to have more influence across the south of the UK, at least at first. Here, there should be a good deal of fine/dry weather during early March with a chance of night frosts and morning fog patches.”

The average daily high temperature for the UK in March is around 9C. However, the GFS weather model suggests that central and southern England could see temperatures well above this from March 6 to March 8, reports The Mirror.

The data indicates that temperatures could widely reach 13C on March 6, with potential highs of 12C to 15C in England and Wales on March 7. By March 8, temperatures could hit 16C.

Weather forecasts for March 8 indicate that the south-east will enjoy the best weather, with temperatures ranging between 14C and 15C across most of England. Wales could experience highs of 13C.

Unfortunately, Northern Ireland and Scotland are not expected to see temperatures reach double digits. Despite the start of meteorological spring on Saturday, the rest of the week is likely to remain cold.

A frosty -2C is predicted across Aberdeenshire and the Scottish Highlands, while Cumbria could see lows of -1C. The Midlands and parts of Wales may struggle to surpass freezing temperatures.
