People are raving about a seaside village in the UK that’s “perfect” for beach days, spotting seals and stargazing. If you’re looking for a break away that promises pretty views and plenty of outdoor adventures, it’s thought this little Yorkshire gem is well worth a visit.
It’s recently been talked about on TikTok as Amelia Brown brought it to travel enthusiasts’ attention. She said it’s well worth considering as an option for your next staycation as you can spend a weekend in an old fisherman’s cottage, gaze at “a thousand stars”, discover seals not too far away at Ravenscar and spend plenty of time on the beach – among many other things.
Amelia said it’s the perfect little place to explore, as the village boasts nice spots to eat, is super pretty and also homes various little alleys and streets to explore. For a few days away, it’s been deemed the perfect “hidden gem” to visit.
Amelia works to put small travel guides together on her social media platform, so she knows what she’s talking about when it comes to finding a good spot. According to her, Robin Hood’s Bay has plenty to offer.
Not to mention, it looks super pretty in the video too. When the weather is on your side, there really can be nowhere better to visit than some of the UK’s seaside spots.
According to Robin Hood’s Bay Tourism Association, Robin Hood’s Bay is a “picturesque old fishing village on the Heritage Coast of the North York Moors.” The website states: “It is a fantastic place for adults and children alike with a beautiful family (and dog) friendly sandy beach, as well as rock pools to explore and ancient fossils to discover.
“Wandering through its narrow, twisting cobbled streets and alleyways, you can easily imagine the sailors and fishermen, smugglers and press gangs that walked these streets hundreds of years ago. Today it is a vibrant village, with a wide range of cafes, pubs, restaurants, small shops and places to explore, as well as many stunning coastal and country walks, cycle-paths and bridleways right on the doorstep.
“There is a wide range of high quality accommodation in the and around the village, making Robin Hood’s Bay a great place to stay for a few days. With easy access to both Whitby and Scarborough, together with other parts of the stunning North York Moors National Park and Heritage Coast, where better to stay for a short break or a longer holiday?”
The village is found in the ancient parish of Fylingdales, with its name believed to be derived from the Old English word “Fygela”, meaning “marshy ground”. When it comes to how it became known as Robin Hood’s Bay, the story remains a mystery.
There isn’t any evidence to suggest that Robin Hood of Sherwood Forest folklore visited the Bay. Therefore, it’s more likely the name developed out of legends with local origin.
Since Amelia’s video was shared, it’s been viewed more than 3,000 times. Several people also commented to share their thoughts too.
One said: “We love Robin Hood’s Bay, especially with digs. Have a similar reel in Staithes too. Have you been there?”
Another wrote: “This looks so dreamy.” A third replied: “My favourite place in the UK.”
A fourth shared a different view, adding: “Lovely village and views but, when the tide is out, the beach is so underwhelming.” Someone else also chimed in with: “One of the best places in the world.”
Many people raved about the spot, while others shared hopes of visiting the area soon. When it comes to travelling in the UK, it seems people are always on the look out for recommendations.
