Seven more weather warnings have been issued for a single day this week as fresh snow, ice, wind and rain look set to cause disruption in England, Scotland and Wales.

It’s been only days since the first snow storms of this winter hit the UK, bringing blankets of snow and ice to various parts of the country both north and south.

And now the Met Office has issued a number of fresh warnings which could see further potential disruption across various parts of England as well as the other UK nations.

The Met Office has issued seven weather warnings for Saturday, November 23 across the UK, with two for rain, two for rain and snow, two for wind, and one more serious amber alert for snow and ice.

Rain and snow warnings have been issued in the north of England and Northern Ireland and include nine major cities such as Newcastle, Leeds, York, Sheffield, Bradford, Lancaster, Stoke and Belfast as well as the fringes of Greater Manchester.

Scotland’s more serious amber warning covers part of central Scotland near Dundee and Stirling, while the yellow warning for snow also affects Edinburgh.

Most of Wales is covered by a rain warning including Cardiff and Swansea while all of the South West from Gloucester to Bath, Exeter and Plymouth is covered by a rain warning too, as well as Portsmouth.

The Met Office is warning of potential disruption to power supplies due to snow, with households in affected areas being urged to prepare.

The Met Office warned those in the affected areas: “People cope better when they have prepared in advance for the risk of power cuts or being cut off from services and amenities due to the snow. It’s easy to do; consider gathering torches and batteries, a mobile phone power pack and other essential items.

“Be prepared for weather warnings to change quickly: when a weather warning is issued, the Met Office recommends staying up to date with the weather forecast in your area.”

About the forecast for this weekend, it added; “Outbreaks of rain will spread northeastwards on Saturday, preceded by a spell of snow across parts of northern England and Scotland.

“Whilst snow will become increasingly confined to higher elevations with time, there is the chance of a transient period of snow to low levels in some areas, with perhaps as much as 5-10 cm accumulating in places, especially the Vale of York, before turning back to rain. Temporary snow accumulations of 10-20 cm are possible on ground above 150m, with perhaps as much as 20-40 cm above 300m.

“In conjunction with strengthening winds, difficult driving conditions are likely, especially over higher level routes, with possibly some interruptions to power supplies. In addition, the rapid thaw of lying snow as milder air arrives, with perhaps an additional 20-40 mm of rain in some upland areas during Saturday night, will lead to a greater likelihood of rainfall impacts later in the period.”
