With the summer holidays out of the way, most Brits will be heading back into their normal routines. With that many households will be preparing to tackle some household chores to reset for the new season, and for those who do not know where to start, an expert has recommend three important tasks to get done around the home to prepare for autumn.
Katie Lilywhite, a floorcare expert at AO.com, shared the chores, recommending that they be done as early as possible, while the weather is still fairly decent. Fortunately everything that has been advised can easily get done with a “few trusty appliances” – making the scheduled housework a breeze.
Deep clean carpets and upholstery
Ms Lilywhite said: “Your vacuum cleaner is handier than ever and now’s the time to strike on tackling some deep cleaning. Give your rugs and sofas a deep cleaning using your vacuum’s attachment.”
As a “bonus”, the expert even recommends combining the task with some bicarbonate of soda to freshen up your flooring and upholstery. You can do this by using it 20 minutes before vacuuming, leaving you with “fresh carpets in no time”.
Final lawn mow and garden clear up
As the weather begins to get colder, you will notice that your grass’s growth will slow down, making now the ultimate time to give it a trim.
Ms Lilywhite says that you should “lower the blades on your lawn mower to clip your lawn and for any loose leaves or debris clear away with a leaf blower or garden vacuum”.
According to the expert, doing this task now will help prevent moss taking hold in your garden and will keep it looked maintained throughout the winter.
Service and clean your heating appliances
Many households, if not already, will soon start to use their heating appliances to keep homes warm and so before using them Ms Lilywhite recommends taking the time out to clean radiators that may be covered in hidden dust.
She said: “Turn to your vacuum and use its crevice tool to remove any debris you find. Similarly, give your dehumidifiers and air purifiers a refresh so they’re ready to keep your home’s indoor air healthy since you’ll probably be keeping your windows shut.
