Weather maps show the mercury could rise up to 25C in England later this month, pointing to a potential Indian Summer. Maps generated by WX Charts today (September 7) show a spell of autumnal warm weather with top temperatures of 25C in Greater London at 6pm on Monday, September 22.
While London looks set for a roasting despite autumn by then being in full swing, cities across the South of England and Midlands may see temperatures in the mid-20Cs, if the maps prove accurate this far ahead. Southampton could see 23C, Bristol 24C, Oxford 24C, Northampton 23C and Birmingham 23C, according to WX Charts’ weather maps.
The three days before September 22 show top temperatures in the mid-to-low 20Cs and dry, bright weather for many.
In its long range weather forecast (September 22 to October 6), the Met Office says some drier, more settled spells are likely early in this period when higher pressure may be more dominant, especially in the south.
It adds: “Temperatures are likely to be close to or a little above average overall, although chilly nights with some fog patches are possible when and where skies are clear and winds light.”
Overall, the period is “likely” to be changeable, according to the forecaster, with areas of low pressure likely at times, especially towards the north of the country.
The Met Office says: “These will bring spells of rain and showers, some of which are likely to be heavy with a risk of hail and thunder, and some windy conditions, especially if any deep lows form.”

Rain continues to spread across Scotland this evening with strong winds. Elsewhere will see a mix of clear spells and a few showers mainly in the west. Locally the showers could be heavy. It will be windy in the north with a risk of gales and feel cooler.
Monday brings plenty of sunny spells, especially in the east. Showers will become more widespread in the west. These will be heavy and thundery at times. It will be less humid with temperatures about average.
The outlook for Tuesday to Thursday is for it to remain unsettled with showers and longer spells of rain possible for all regions at times. The west will generally be the wettest. It will breezy and temperatures will trend down slightly.
