Swathes of the UK are set to roast at a sweltering 28C this month – as a new chart reveals the exact day a hot heat plume sweeps half of England. And the Daily Express has compiled a complete list of the 21 UK counties that could expect to see the mercury soar to at least 23C.

The dramatic dark-red new heat map for Wednesday 18th June from WXCharts.com also shows how western Europe will also enjoy a ‘mini-heatwave’, bringing cheery news to British holidaymakers having a dart across the English Channel for a quick break. It comes as experts reveal the UK has enjoyed the sunniest spring on record.

The 23C-28C (73.4-82.4F) ‘heatwave’ stretches from the south coast of England, including towns and cities like Crawley, London, Cambridge, Milton Keynes, Peterborough, Norwich and Nottingham. While some parts of Britain as north as Lincoln are still set to soak up 23C (73.4F) weather as the WXCharts.com maps show Wednesday 18h June will see a blanket of red heat up central and souith-eastern England.

The UK appears to be on the verge of a hotter than usual summer – with the Met Office warning there’s an increased risk of heatwaves in the coming months.

The weather service’s three-month outlook predicts it is 2.3 times more likely than normal that it will be hot in the UK between 1 June and 31 August.

The average temperatures during those months range from 10-17C, with the southeast of England experiencing the higher averages of 16-17C.

This has been the UK’s sunniest spring on record, with some 630 hours of sunshine logged between 1 March and 27 May – beating the previous record of 626 hours set in 2020.

It has also been the driest spring in more than a century.

The Met Office said: “While the current three-month outlook shows an increased chance of a hot summer, the temperature signals for this summer are similar to those for recent years and consistent with our warming climate.

“The increased chance of hotter than average temperatures is not a guarantee of prolonged hot weather or heatwaves, but it does mean that heatwave conditions could be reached at times.

“However, it’s important to bear in mind that an increased chance of hot conditions could also reflect a mix of hot and cool days, warm nights, or less extreme levels of warmth rather than continual heatwave conditions specifically.”

Now our new weather map for the UK for Wednesday 18th June reveals we have more sizzling weather on the way.
