Yellow thunderstorm warnings are in effect today, Monday, July 21, with alerts issued across several parts of the UK. Scattered heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected throughout the day. Rainfall will vary by location, but some areas could see 20 to 30mm of rain within just a couple of hours.
The first Met warning, active from 3pm to 9pm, covers the East of England, London and South East England, and parts of South West England. During this period, scattered heavy showers and thunderstorms may cause flooding, travel disruption and local damage. The second warning, running from 11am to 9pm, affects southern Scotland and northern England.
This alert highlights a higher risk of intense rainfall potentially 40mm to 50mm in some locations, along with lightning, hail and gusty winds, increasing the chance of flooding and transport delays.
Showers and thunderstorms are expected to gradually ease by Monday evening.
New weather maps from Netweather also indicate heavy rainfall across the UK, with up to 30mm expected in parts of northern Scotland, northern England and the South East.
WX Charts also predicts rainfall, with around 5mm forecast for northern Scotland and significant downpours in the Midlands and near Newcastle around 3pm on Monday afternoon.
