In the spotlight for its trifecta of affordability, charm, and heritage is Portsmouth, with Aqua explaining: “From the historic charm of the Spinnaker Tower to the vibrant waterfront at Gunwharf Quays, this coastal city offers plenty to see and do without breaking the bank.”
The south coast city, renowned for its maritime roots and scenic docks, takes pride in being amongst the trio of most budget-friendly staycation spots nationwide.
As per the study’s findings, travellers can enjoy a night’s stay in Portsmouth for as little as £108, positioning it just ahead of Eastbourne with £112 accommodation, and just below Blackpool, which comes in at £82.
Yet, price isn’t the only appeal, as the quaint beauty of Portsmouth’s historical areas — notably its quaint Old Town with its cobblestone streets — is garnering increased attention from Brits up and down the nation.
One Tripadvisor user explained the area’s appeal, noting the availability of a “nice walk to do and view the old town” and praising it for being “very well maintained,” which “gives an idea of what it was like.”
That sentiment was echoed among other travellers, with one user praising it as “a lovely place for a chilled walk away from the hustle and bustle of the city. A great selection of pubs, shops and places to eat.”
