UCLA’s football recruiting staff features plenty of faces familiar to coach Bob Chesney, along with some strong West Coast ties.
Five members of the staff announced Wednesday followed Chesney from James Madison, including Nathan Applebaum, Cristos Argys, Trey Lane, Reed Horner and Michael Moriarty. Three others previously worked at programs in the old Pac-12 footprint: JR Moala comes from Oregon State, Deontrae Cooper from Arizona State and Nick So’oto from California.
They are joined by new general manager Darrick Yray and returning recruiting staffers Steven Price, Marshawn Friloux and JD Lake.
Collectively, the group brought in a transfer class that was ranked No. 11 in the nation by recruiting site On3.com.

“Elite scouting, recruiting and talent evaluation are key to building a championship-caliber football program,” Chesney said.
“Our front office and coaching staff share the same vision and have a clear understanding of the high-character student-athletes we want to bring into our UCLA family. This recruiting staff brings a wealth of knowledge, deep connections and a tireless work ethic that will help identify the next generation of Bruins.”
UCLA’s transfer class, which has grown to 43 players, includes two four-star transfer recruits and six former four-star high school recruits. The Bruins have brought in 10 offensive linemen, nine defensive linemen and six wide receivers.
Six of the offensive linemen have made 10 or more starts on the FBS level, providing the Bruins with vast experience going into Chesney’s first season.
