Two people have been killed after a small plane crashed on Catalina Island.

The two-seater aircraft, identified as a factory Sling, reportedly smashed into the south side of the island, on the opposite side to the city of Avalon, just after midday.

Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn said the two people on board were pronounced dead at the scene.
