Two harmful but common practices that 'will kill' peace lilies during winter

Feeding cold water, however, can cause a temperature shock to the plant’s roots and lead to a disruption of normal root function. What’s more, this stress can result in the wilt of leaves and an overall decline in the plant’s health.

Experts at Backyardboss explain: “Tap water is usually cold, so it shocks plants. Peace lilies grow best at 68 to 85 degrees Fahrenheit.

“Setting your watering can out for the day helps the water gradually warm up, so it closely marches optimal growing temperatures.”

Temperatures as low as 40F (4C) will kill the plant, House Beautiful reports.

Chlorinated tap water is another nemesis of the peace lily. Instead of feeding it water straight from the tap, let the liquid sit overnight first.
