The chef elaborated: “The air fryer is ideal for quick, crispy snacks like pickles. Simply slice or use pre-sliced pickles, and pat them dry to remove excess moisture – that’s the key to getting them crisp.”

Transforming gherkins into a delicious treat is simple: coat them in flour, dip them in beaten egg, then dredge them in breadcrumbs or crushed crisps.

These pickled treats are best cooked at 200C. According to Martin, they only take eight to 11 minutes in the air fryer, so your snack will be ready in no time.

Ingredients

  • 300g of pickles
  • Two tbsp of all-purpose flour
  • Two pinches of cayenne pepper
  • Two eggs
  • 100g of breadcrumbs
  • One tsp of oil

Method:

Cut the pickles at an angle into slices about 0.7cm thick and pat them dry. In one bowl, mix the flour and cayenne pepper. Whisk the eggs in another, and add the breadcrumbs to the third.

Coat the pickles with flour, then dip them into the eggs and finally cover them with breadcrumbs. Brush or spray them with oil.

Arrange the pickles evenly in the basket. If you cannot fit all in one layer, bake in batches. Start the device at 200C and fry for 11 minutes.

Remove from the device and serve with your favourite dipping sauce.
