Trump’s ‘unforgivable’ vow over Prince Harry and Meghan ‘betrayal’ | Royal | News

Donald Trump’s shock election victory over Democrat Kamala Harris has left the American left reeling and sent shockwaves around the world.

The unexpected triumph is sure to have been felt in Montecito, where Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, who had previously praised Harris, would have been closely following the unfolding results.

Trump’s win has also ignited speculation about Prince Harry’s future in the US. The President had previously suggested he might scrutinise the Duke’s visa application due to concerns that he did not disclose details of drug use, something he admitted to in his memoir Spare.

Despite this potential visa issue, Trump had already criticised the couple, accusing them of having “betrayed” the late Queen Elizabeth, whom he claims to have admired, reports the Scottish Daily Express

When asked about the visa situation last year, Trump said he “wouldn’t protect” Harry, fuming: “He betrayed the Queen. That’s unforgivable. He would be on his own if it was down to me.”

In an interview, he elaborated, saying: “I think there was great disrespect, done to a person that I got to know and like very well. I thought she was treated very disrespectfully by them. Although, she wouldn’t show it because she was strong and smart.”

“I would imagine they broke her heart. The things that they were saying were so bad and so horrible. She was in her 90s and hearing this stuff, I think they broke her heart. I think they really hurt her.”

Trump has been quite outspoken about his views on Meghan, expressing last year that he is “not a fan of hers”.

During a candid sit-down with Nigel Farage for GB News, Trump revealed his long-standing skepticism about Meghan, saying he was “not a fan of hers”.

He said: “I wasn’t from day one. I think Harry has been used horribly and I think some day he will regret it. I think Harry’s been used and been used terribly. I think it’s ruined his relationship with his family, and it hurts the Queen. She is trying to do things that I think are very inappropriate.”

In a previous reaction to the couple stepping back from Royal duties, he made his feelings clear on social media the year before, saying: “I am a great friend and admirer of the Queen and the United Kingdom. It was reported that Harry and Meghan, who left the Kingdom, would reside permanently in Canada.

“Now they have left Canada for the US however, the US will not pay for their security protection. They must pay!”

Known for rarely mincing his words, Trump also commented on the couple’s subtle political leanings (Harry has to be careful about getting involved in politics, as a member of the Royal Family) during the 2020 elections, suggesting they were backing Joe Biden.

He quipped in response: “I’m not a fan of hers. I would say this – and she has probably heard that – I wish a lot of luck to Harry because he’s going to need it.”
