Unidentified flying objects (UFOs) have been observed over restricted US nuclear facilities, with details so sensitive that even presidents receive briefings only on a need-to-know basis, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, a close ally of former President Donald Trump, has claimed.
Mr Rubio made his startling admission in a trailer for the documentary The Age of Disclosure, set for release on November 21, 2025, with streaming on Prime Video and awards-qualifying theatrical screenings. Produced by Emmy-winning director Dan Farah, the film alleges an 80-year global cover-up of non-human intelligence. In the clip, Mr Rubio says: “There had been reports of something operating in the airspace over restricted nuclear facilities” that wasn’t American-made.
He adds that the intelligence “keeps me up at night,” and whistleblowers risk their lives for speaking out.
Such claims tap into a long history of UFO sightings tied to nuclear sites, dating to the dawn of the atomic age. During World War II, Allied pilots reported “foo fighters” – mysterious glowing orbs that tailed aircraft over Europe and the Pacific, defying conventional explanations and fuelling early suspicions of advanced surveillance tech.
The 1947 Roswell incident, where a supposed “flying disc” crashed near a New Mexico Army Air Field, ignited modern conspiracy theories: the military initially announced a “flying saucer” recovery before retracting it as a weather balloon.
Theorists, from authors like Stanton Friedman to online forums, have since alleged a government-orchestrated cover-up of alien craft and bodies, with Roswell as ground zero for decades of distrust in official denials.
Mr Rubio’s disclosure also recalls a notorious 1967 event at Montana’s Malmstrom Air Force Base, where UFOs allegedly disabled US nuclear missiles. Then-Captain Robert Salas, overseeing an underground silo, received a report of a glowing disc hovering above. Moments later, all 10 Minuteman missiles shut down inexplicably, despite redundant safeguards.
Robert Salas, who later went public, described it as beyond human tech – possibly an extraterrestrial signal against nuclear arms.
The film includes declassified Pentagon videos from 2004 and 2015, capturing Navy pilots reacting to objects moving at impossible speeds. One Navy pilot says: “There’s a whole fleet of them… My gosh, they’re all going against the wind.” The Defense Department authenticated the footage this week but called the phenomena “unidentified,” unrelated to US programs.
This aligns with official concerns: A 2019 Pentagon task force noted “unauthorised and/or unidentified aircraft” in military zones, prompting streamlined Navy reporting. The defunct Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program, led by Luis Elizondo until his 2017 resignation over secrecy, investigated similar incursions.
Luis Elizondo told CNN: “There is very compelling evidence that we may not be alone.”
As a former Senate Intelligence Committee member, Mr. Rubio urges attention. He says: “It’s a crucial topic,” pointing to potential threats from advanced – or alien – sources.
With The Age of Disclosure featuring high-level officials, the debate over skies above America’s nuclear arsenal intensifies.
Evidence points to possibilities including foreign adversaries, drones or other advanced technology. The once-buried details now demand scrutiny.
