President Trump has departed Windsor Castle on the final day of his historic state visit to the UK. He bid a fond farewell to King Charles and made his feelings clear to members of the waiting media as he climbed into his car.
The President, who is now on his way to the Prime Minister’s country retreat, Chequers, was heard to say: “He’s a great gentleman and a great King.” As a known Anglophile and fan of the Royal Family, Trump’s praise for the King was the latest mark of respect he showed during his unprecedented second visit.
As the second day of his whirlwind state visit begins, Trump will join Sir Keir and Lady Starmer for a series of important appearances.
Upon his arrival at Chequers, he will be met by The Prime Minister and Lady Starmer and greeted with a Guard of Honour from RAF Halton and bagpipers.
Trump and Starmer will then view the Sir Winston Churchill archives held at Chequers, before having a bilateral meeting, which will be followed by a press conference at Chequers.
The President has travelled alone as the First Lady will carry out two solo engagements with the Queen and the Princess of Wales in Windsor.
She will first tour Queen Mary’s Dolls’ House and the Royal Library at Windsor Castle with Queen Camilla, before joiningPrincess Kate in Frogmore Gardens to meet the Chief Scout, Dwayne Fields and participants in the Scouts’ Squirrels programme who are working to achieve their Go Wild badge.
