A body language expert believed Donald Trump showed his true feelings when he met the Prince and Princess of Wales today. The US President met Prince William, Princess Kate and King Charles during his state visit at Windsor Castle with the First Lady, Melania Trump.
Body language expert Inbaal Honigman believed that the disparity between the US President’s “choreographed” body language and the Royal’s “comfortable” and “natural” demeanor revealed the meeting was “quite a huge deal” to Donald Trump. She theorised “the magnificence of the occasion is evident” for the US President. She explained: “Prince William’s comfortable, natural stance suggests for him it is all in a day’s work. Whereas Trump’s still ‘Ken doll’ pose may reveal that, for him, the meeting is quite a huge deal.”
Speaking on behalf of OLBG, Inbaal Honigman also noted that the difference between the direction of the King’s gaze and the president’s gaze is “all we need to see to know” that Charles is taking the conversation in his stride.
Whereas, she theorised that President Trump was viewing the conversation as an opportunity to “make himself seem like he’s a big deal”.
Her full analysis said: “We see William reaching for Katherine, placing his hand on her back in a reassuring manner, and reaching for her to convey they are there together.
“In contrast, President Trump stands in quite a stiff way, holding his shoulders back, as if he wants to follow protocol, but he’s not 100% sure what protocol is.
“His shoulders square, President Trump stands in a strong, commanding pose and shakes hands seriously, as if trying not to appear overly friendly.
“Even the way that Trump and Melania hold hands as they walk appears choreographed, the two of them may have decided in advance that was how they would walk.”
“Prince William’s comfortable, natural stance suggests for him it is all in a days work. Whereas Trump’s still ‘Ken doll’ pose may reveal that, for him, the meeting is quite a huge deal.
“For King Charles, having a chit chat in the carriage with President Trump is not a huge deal. We know that because the King is gazing straight ahead and slightly downwards, demonstrating he is just speaking his mind and engaging in casual conversation.
“However, for Trump, the magnificence of the occasion is evident because he is gazing ahead and slightly upwards.
“Trump’s raised upwards gaze may suggest that as he talks, he’s trying to talk himself up and to present things to the King as if they are greater or grander than they actually are.
“Trump appears to be reverting into his salesman persona and coming across as grandiose while he speaks, and talking himself up to the monarch.
“This slight difference between the direction of the King’s gaze and the president’s gaze is all we need to see to know that Charles is taking the conversation in his stride.
“Whereas president Trump is viewing the conversation as an opportunity to make himself seem like he’s a big deal.”
