A “very high threat level” has been declared for the Windsor Castle area ahead of Donald Trump’s arrival for his second state visit to the UK. The US President and the first lady, Melania, are due to arrive at Windsor Castle on Tuesday evening, where they will be treated to a ceremonial welcome by King Charles and a state banquet the next day. On Thursday, he will then head to Chequers – Sir Keir Starmer’s country home in Buckinghamshire – to meet the prime minister and Lady Starmer.
However, the imminent visit has been branded a “catastrophic” failure of judgment by Sir Keir Starmer and “shameful and humiliating for the UK” by a campaigner from the protest group, Stop Trump Coalition. The group plans to take to Windsor High Street on Tuesday night, followed by a march through central London the next day. Speaking on ITV’s Good Morning Britain, Zoe Gardner claimed the Government was “just desperate to get through” the visit “because they know that inviting him in the first place was just one more in a long line of catastrophic political failures of judgment by our Prime Minister.”
