Princess Kate, her husband and their three children will join senior members of the Royal Family today to mark King Charles’s official birthday. The annual event, known as Trooping the Colour, is steeped in pageantry, history and breathtaking displays of military precision.

Royal fans are treated to a spectacular display of pomp and pageantry, with hundreds of parading soldiers, horses, and musicians and an impressive RAF flypast. The King will lead the event, but due to his ongoing cancer treatment, he will join the procession in one of the state carriages instead of participating on horseback.

Senior royals will be out in force to support the monarch, and the event will conclude with members of the Firm stepping out on the Buckingham Palace balcony to watch the Red Arrows whizz overhead.

Some changes have been made to the day to pay respect to the horrific Air India plane crash that killed all but one of the 242 people on board. This includes the wearing of black armbands and a minute’s silence during the parade.
