The 10 very best fine dining spots in the whole world have officially been named, and one of them is right here in the UK. When you’re looking for the perfect place to eat, drink and catch up with friends, checking TripAdvisor is often the way to go – especially when you’re in a new city or town.
The TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice Awards has pulled together the dining establishments that have left visitors the most impressed. And the only UK location to make the top 10 wasn’t in London, as you might have expected. In fact, it’s The Witchery in Edinburgh – a gorgeous gothic-style hotel and restaurant that diners say is ‘out of this world’.
With nearly seven thousand glowing five-star reviews and several rewards under its belt, it’s no wonder that The Witchery has been recognised as the only UK spot to make the top 10 fine dining list according to TripAdvisor.
This category of the awards focuses on places that are ‘worth getting on the wait list for’ – and The Witchery definitely fits the bill. Situated just off the Royal Mile in the Scottish capital, with its old-style stone walls, candlelight and gothic interiors, it oozes romance and grandeur.
It’s renowned worldwide for being a truly exceptional dining experience with a menu that shows off the very best of Scotland’s fresh, locally sourced produce. Think seafood from East Lothian and the West Coast, game from the Highlands, the best Scottish beef.
The Best of the Best award winners are based on customer reviews, and it’s clear to see that visitors have been blown away by their experiences at The Witchery.
Fans have flooded the review section with positivity, with one happy diner writing: “We had the most amazing romantic lunch 2 course at the Witchery. It was magical with the atmosphere top notch. Make a reservation here well in advance its a wonderful experience. The food and service was fantastic!”
Another wrote: “Absolutely lovely. The atmosphere, the attention to detail, the cocktails, the food, the staff, just an excellent experience from start to finish. Highly recommend.”
However, some were less impressed with the food offerings, as one customer penned: “Food was fine but really small portions for the price. Touristy so guess that is the norm.”
TripAdvisor highlighted: “The Travellers’ Choice Awards Best of the Best title celebrates the highest level of excellence in travel. It’s awarded to those who receive a high volume of above-and-beyond reviews and opinions from the Tripadvisor community over a 12-month period. Out of our eight million listings, fewer than 1% achieve this milestone.”
Elsewhere in the world, Fogón Asado in Buenos Aires snagged the number one spot on the list – an establishment which explores the rich tradition of asado steak with a fun twist. Each dish is cooked right in front of guests, and there is an amazing selection of Argentinian wines that pair perfectly with the meat.
Izakaya High Japanese Cuisine came second, serving up traditional Japanese food with a menu includes plenty of tasty dishes such as uramaki, sashimi and tempura. The chefs are true professionals, so you know you’re getting the absolute best quality in every dish.
