Tree experts stump Boris’s plans to demolish servants’ wing in his £4m country pad

Last month it was revealed the former PM wants to revamp his muralled mansion where he entertains guests such as former Culture Secretary Nadine Dorries, for the “democratic age where families no longer rely on live-in staff”.

Boris, 59, and wife Carrie, 35, aim to rebuild a single-storey extension for an enlarged boot room and patio. It has been reported environmental experts have been called on to conduct a tree survey at the Grade II-listed nine-bedroom home in Oxfordshire over fears for the roots.

South and Vale Tree Officer Gavin Rees said: “The current submission has failed to demonstrate that protected trees will not be damaged.”

It comes after the Johnsons were given the green light to build a pool, despite claims it would threaten a newt colony.
