With the Easter holidays approaching, families across the country are already finalising their travel plans.

But planning a summer holiday doesn’t mean battling through crowds or paying premium prices.

Packaging your holiday with the best flights and hotels is something everyone looks for; however, not everyone manages to get the perfect deals.

A travel expert has shared some clever strategies to enjoy popular destinations without huge crowds and high costs.

Among her tips, she revealed when it’s best to make the bookings – and her remarks may come as unexpected for some.

Calling it “dead weeks”, and expert from Cheap Deals Away shared that some days in June experience lower booking rates and this is when you should immediately start planning your holidays.

Dawn Morwood, Co-Director of Cheap Deals Away said: “Every summer has what travel insiders call ‘dead weeks’ – periods when bookings naturally dip.

“The week of June 26th and the first week of July often see lower booking rates.

“These weeks fall between typical school holiday dates, making them perfect for travellers without children.”

The expert also suggested to make the hotel bookings smartly and not too early. Mr Morwood explained that hotel prices often drop closer to the stay dates.

So, he added: “The sweet spot for summer hotel bookings is 3-4 weeks before your trip. Many hotels release unsold rooms at reduced rates during this period.

“However, if you’re heading to popular beach destinations or major cities, book 2-3 months ahead. Places like the Greek Islands or the Spanish Costa del Sol fill up quickly for July and August. Booking earlier not only guarantees availability but often comes with early bird discounts.”
