A teenager who had been missing for two days has tragically been found dead in a reservoir.
An urgent appeal was launched by officers in Bolton to locate Daniel Holden over the weekend. Sadly, the 19-year-old was last spotted near Lower Rivington Reservoir at 9pm on Friday (August 29).
Over the weekend, police conducted a thorough search of the area, with a specialist underwater team deployed to the scene on Sunday.
Tragically, Daniel’s body was retrieved from the water on Sunday and he was pronounced dead at the scene, reports the Manchester Evening News.
In a statement released today (Tuesday), a spokesperson for Lancashire Police said: “Following reports of a concern for welfare for a man believed to be in the Rivington area, officers were in the area of Lower Rivington Reservoir since the afternoon of Saturday, August 30.
“Following an underwater search on Sunday, August 31, very sadly the body of a 19-year-old man was found in the reservoir.
“Sadly, and despite the best efforts of the emergency services, he was pronounced deceased at the scene.
“Our thoughts are with his loved ones at this devastating time.
“His death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be passed onto HM Coroner in due course.”
Tributes have poured in for the former footballer following the tragic news of his death.
A representative for Horwich RMI Amateur Football Club penned a heartfelt tribute on Facebook: “RIP Daniel Holden our former player, thoughts go out to family and friends in this very sad time.”
Friends have also taken to social media to express their grief.
One friend wrote: “Rip Danny top lad and a good friend had some good laughs gone way to soon.”
Another echoed: “RIP Danny my mate.”
A third friend shared: “Rest in peace Danny Holden my heart goes out to his family and friends, really is such a shame to see such a young lad pass like this.”
