One of the best parts of staying at a hotel is coming back to fluffy and perfectly-folded towels after a long day at the pool. It’s that little added touch that makes you feel like you’re really on holiday.
Trying to replicate hotel quality towels at home can be tricky, especially if you’re trying to keep them fluffy and soft. Knowing how to properly fold them is slightly easier however, and not only does it look better, it also means you can keep them stored away neatly until you need to use them. While it might look complicated, one Instagram user has shared how to fold a towel in just a few quick steps.
Gretchen Clark shared a video on Instagram that showed her mother in law, Rose, demonstrating how to fold towels like you get when staying at a hotel.
Spreading the towel out on a table, her mother in law proceeded to show how to neatly fold towels up in just a few steps. She first instructed viewers to “lay it out smooth” before folding the top corner of the towel into the middle to “make a triangle”.
Making sure to keep smoothing it out as you go to prevent any creases from forming, she continued by folding the towel in half towards her.
You can then turn the towel over and start rolling it up tightly. Gretchen’s mother in law also advised tapping the towel on the end as you’re rolling it to ensure it keeps smooth.
Once it’s rolled up, she said: “You get your little tail, you tuck it in, and there is your hotel towel.”
Folding towels after washing them can be a dreaded chore, but this technique takes just a few seconds and makes it easy to stack them together.
One follower commented on the video and said: “I hope you know I immediately took all my towels out the closet and redid them.”
To make sure towels stay fluffy too, avoid overdoing it with laundry detergent when washing them and using fabric softener, as this can leave a waxy residue that leaves towels feeling stiff.
Instead, adding white vinegar to your wash can revive towels, helping break down detergent or fabric softener that’s built up and leaving them feeling soft instead.
