Tourists in UK seaside town furious as Premier Inn has 'dirty bathrooms and sewage'

Tourists in a beautiful UK seaside town have erupted with fury at a Premier Inn, which they say has “dirty bathrooms and sewage in car park”.

The budget hotel chain’s Torquay branch has a respectable four out of five score on Tripadvisor but numerous reviews have slammed it as “dirty” and “unkempt” adding that it “stinks of mould”.

But despite the heavy criticism others have praised it for its “perfect” location, “polite” staff and “cheap” prices.

One reviewer on Tripadvisor said: “Had a lovely stay at Torquay Premier Inn, rooms are lovely and clean with ample amenities.

“Lovely receptionist Rachel, polite and courteous, with an easy booking in process which was very helpful.

“The restaurant was lovely, an excellent choice of food and very reasonably priced with lovely service received by the waitress Sharon. Would recommend a visit to Premier Inn Torquay. Great value, lovely staff.”

However, the bad reviews are enough to put fictional Torquay hotelier Basil Fawlty to shame.

One read: “Dirty bathrooms, raw sewage in the car park and the slowest, poor-run Beefeater going.

“The whole place was a shambles on this visit, freezing cold rooms and heaters did the minimum, I had a really bad stay considering I’ve used this place for six years.”

Another added: “It stinks of mould, the few staff left all look utterly shattered (most are very good – this isn’t a review of them) and the management is non-existent.

“Service is slow because there’s no staff and those left are running around like headless chickens.

“One night the entire restaurant and bar team (a total of three people for a busy night) had been shipped in from another hotel so whilst they did their best, they didn’t have a clue where anything was.

“This used to be a great hotel but it has got worse and worse every time I’ve stayed. Such a shame.”

One review also raised “health and safety” concerns saying the hotel “did not come close to Premier Inn’s usual high standards”.

The reviewer slammed the hotel’s “dirty and very sticky” tables, “shabby” bar area and “filthy” floors.

Premier Inn has been contacted for comment.
