Putting on a load of washing is not only a chore, but the drying process on an airer could take up much-needed space for too long.
Thankfully there are a few ways to help speed up the process so you can put the washing away sooner.
This is especially important if you are having guests over, and you don’t want your house to look like a mess.
Ideal Home suggested the “drying rack hack” that involves placing the airer next to a radiator.
The next step, and the true hack, is to “tuck the top end of a bedsheet down the back of the radiator”.
Ideal Home explained: “Place the bed sheet up over the top of the drying rack to stop warm air from escaping.”
Instead, the warm air will insulate the clothes on the drying rack, helping them to dry much quicker.
“Using a fan can also keep air flowing, which will help the water to evaporate,” Ideal Home added.
There needs to be fresh air circulating when drying clothes indoors, even during the midst of winter.
This is because too much moisture in the air can lead to mould developing in the home.
Thus, the next time you have clothes on an airer in the home, crack open the window, even if it’s just open a teeny bit.
Lynsey Queen of Clean shared her “favourite” drying hack, which is to hang damp clothes on a hanger and place them on a curtain rail with the window ajar.
“You will be surprised at how quickly clothes can dry like this,” said Lyndsey.
“Plus, it also makes the clothes less creased, so much easier to iron.”
By having the window open it also helps to prevent mould from developing in the home, which could lead to health problems in the long term.
For those wanting an even faster way to dry clothes, it could be time to invest in a heated clothes airer.
More energy efficient than a tumble dryer, and a cheaper expense out front, it’s an investment made worthwhile.
