Africa offers plenty of “unforgettable” destinations, perfect for a January escape.

From gorilla trekking in Uganda to relaxing on Tanzania’s secluded beaches, a travel expert has highlighted four incredible places to consider.

Wayne Kask, the founder and CEO of Discover West Central Florida, told Express.co.uk: “Africa has so much to offer, whether you’re looking for adventure, relaxation, or stunning natural beauty.

“These destinations truly stand out for an unforgettable January trip.”

If you’re seeking adventure, a trek through Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable Forest is hard to beat, according to the expert.

This UNESCO World Heritage site is home to half of the world’s mountain gorilla population, offering visitors the chance to observe these gentle giants in their natural habitat.

“Gorilla trekking is a bucket-list experience,” said Mr Kask. “January is the ideal time to visit because of the warm weather and excellent hiking conditions.

“It’s not just about the gorillas; Bwindi is close to other attractions like Queen Elizabeth National Park and Lake Bunyonyi, so you can combine it with a safari.”

For those looking to escape into nature, Tzaneen offers lush, tropical landscapes and a calm atmosphere.

The area is famous for its ancient baobab trees and dense forests, making it ideal for outdoor activities like zip-lining.

“Tzaneen is perfect if you want to recharge and reconnect with nature,” Mr Kask explained. “The warm January weather makes it a great time to explore the stunning scenery or simply relax in peace.”

Mafia Island is a lesser-known gem, offering pristine beaches and a calm atmosphere away from the crowds. Its clear waters are ideal for snorkeling and exploring coral reefs.

“If you’re looking for a quiet, secluded paradise, Mafia Island is a must,” said Kask.

“January’s gentle breezes and calm waters create the perfect setting to unwind.”

Cape Town offers a mix of adventure, culture, and luxury. Visitors can hike the Table Mountain, explore the Cape of Good Hope, and indulge in world-class food and wine.

January’s sunny weather is perfect for outdoor activities, and the nearby Garden Route offers wildlife and beautiful beaches.

“Cape Town has a bit of everything,” Kask said. “You can enjoy breathtaking hikes, incredible wildlife, and some of the best culinary experiences in the world.”
