A bowl of tomato soup has to be one of the most comforting dishes there is. Whether it’s something you have when you’re feeling ill or need a pick-me-up, you can never go wrong with it. It is so simple to make, yet there is so much you can do to elevate its flavour.
While most people have their own special recipes and cooking hacks, it doesn’t mean you can’t be open to some new ones. In a cooking forum on Reddit, user Mundane-Prune-4504 wrote: “Help! I make an okay tomato soup, but it always feels like it falls a little bit flat. I’d love your tips and tricks that help make the flavours pop.”
Other users were quick to drop their gems including one that involve a simple ingredient that would already be in the majority of UK homes.
User dust_cover said: “My grandmother always stirred a very large spoonful of butter right before serving. I think it’s why hers was always so so good”.
And it appears that they are not the only ones who swears by the butter addition. Another user, drgigglefactory simply echoed the suggestion and wrote: “Butter!”
User LemonMeringueP13 shared their entire trusty method, which also involves a fair amount of butter.
“I roast cocktail tomatoes and baby carrots with rosemary, salt and olive oil until the skins are dark brown. I also use chicken broth, loads of butter, caramelised onions and a teaspoon of sugar.
“Somehow this comes together very well imho [in my honest opinion]. It’s adapted from the Neiman Marcus tomato soup.”
Once user Zeppelinman1 is done blending up all their tomato soup ingredients, they add a tablespoon of butter “or olive oil”.
Others shared how they incorporate butter into their methods, such as cooking vegetables, including carrots and onions, in butter.
