To be born British is to win the lottery of life – despite our idiot politicians | UK | News

So the powers that be have belatedly woken up. The world out there is not full of nice guys wanting to write poetry and play with kittens: it is teeming with aggressive leaders wanting to expand their empires and who cares who pays the price? After decades of complacency, the West is starting to rearm, even if our own ghastly, insipid leader won’t go into such trivial details such as timing: tragically it is looking as if decades of peace in this part of the world, at least, may be coming to an end.

Which means that it’s not just splashing the cash on military equipment that’s needed: it would not be a bad idea to change the mindset across the board in this country too. Schoolchildren are routinely taught to hate this Britain’s history, that Empire was evil, that we were all sexist, racist bigots. And who’s going to want to fight to protect that? Love of country is akin to extremism, they are told, to be proud to be British means we’re all knuckle-dragging thugs.

Well, if we want to hang on to this country of ours, which is so evil that half the world seems to want to come and live in it, shouldn’t we start bigging ourselves up?

It makes me really angry when people talk about how dreadful and corrupt Great Britain is. You really do not have to travel that far beyond our shores to see that to be born British is still to win the lottery in life.

There may well still be some corruption here, but it pales in comparison to southern Europe, let alone parts of Africa, South America and just about everywhere else. We have crime on our streets, yes, and our idiot politicians are totally failing to tackle it, but it does not compare to elsewhere. Unlike in the US, we don’t have unbridled gun culture, so when something really terrible happens, it causes such shock simply because it’s so rare.

Britons are a fundamentally decent people and we should be proud of our past. Fairly soon we’re going to have to ask the younger generation to defend it. So it might be an idea to make them think there’s something worthwhile to fight for.

Our country, despite everything, is still the best in the world.
