Mean Girls enthusiasts will want to switch on their televisions tonight as the beloved film that devotees can recite word for word is available to watch tonight for free.

Mean Girls hit cinemas in 2004, and despite being released over twenty years ago, it continues to be enormously popular with audiences. Featuring sharp wit, the movie chronicles newcomer Cady Heron as she navigates a complicated social pecking order at her fresh American secondary school.

However, she quickly becomes embroiled in an ongoing feud between a clique of “mean girls” and two “misfits”. With Lindsay Lohan portraying Cady, viewers also know Rachel McAdams as Regina George, Amanda Seyfried as Karen Smith and Lacey Chabert as Gretchen Wieners.

The picture will be broadcast on ITV2 and ITVX at 7pm this evening, Sunday, August 17. The uplifting movie comes after Mamma Mia which screens at 4.45pm.

Following the enormous popularity of the original Mean Girls picture in 2004, a follow-up arrived in 2011 but received poor reception, with the initial instalment staying a steadfast favourite amongst viewers, reports the Mirror.

Writing on Google reviews, one admirer commented: “Mean Girls (2004) is the best movie ever. I would recommend it to everyone in the world.”

Another agreed: “Mean Girls is my all time favorite movie!”.

A third added: “Mean girls (2004) has got to be one one of the most amazing movies ever, not only is it timeless but the movie itself is original. Lindsay Lohan did amazing and I couldn’t have thought of a better actress to portray Regina George but Rachel McAdams.”

They continued: “All of the other actors and actresses deserve the praise they got, after 20 years I can still watch this movie with the same pleasure and joy I got when I first saw it years ago.”

Boasting an impressive 84% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, the glowing reviews kept flooding in as one admirer declared: “Definitely a good movie full of sense of humor and critical analysis of the society.”

Another penned: “This movie is very funny and iconic I love this movie.”

A third gushed: “This movie is incredible and holds up very well to this day.

“I will never get tired of it. From the soundtrack, to the costume design, and the acting is fantastic. This movie has legendary lines that people still quote. Tina Fey, you are a genius!”.

Meanwhile on Reddit, one discussion thread proclaimed: “‘Mean Girls (2004) is near perfect and likely the most quotable movie I’ve ever seen”, with devoted fans sharing their effusive praise for the beloved film.

Mean Girls is streaming on ITV2 and ITVX tonight at 7pm.
