A “timeless classic” with legend Meryl Streep is airing tonight as fans brand it their “favourite” film. The Devil Wears Prada is a 2006 favourite, which is still a popular choice almost two decades on.
Featuring legend Meryl Streep (Mamma Mia) and Anne Hathaway (The Princess Diaries), fans will also recognise Emily Blunt (Oppenheimer) in the much loved film directed by David Frankel.
The film follows an aspiring young woman, and budding journalist, who travels to New York and begins work with one of the city’s biggest magazine editors, Miranda Priestly.
Meryl Streep plays boss Miranda Priestly, with Anne Hathaway taking on the role of Andrea Sachs. Emily Blunt plays the role of Emily Charlton as Stanley Tucci is Nigel. Now, the film will be available to watch tonight (September 14) at 6.45pm on Film 4, for those wanting a cosy Sunday night in.
It was previously reported that production had started on the sequel to the Devil Wears Prada, which is slated to be released next year to coincide with the film’s 20-year anniversary. Alongside some new faces, some familiar ones will return including Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway.
But the first and original film, based on the popular 2003 novel of the same name, remains a loveable classic amongst fans who say it is the perfect “comfort” film.
With an impressive score of 75% on Rotten Tomatoes, fans continue to have their say despite the film’s older release date. One person wrote: “The Devil Wears Prada – A Timeless Classic
“The Devil Wears Prada is an absolutely incredible, iconic film — one of those rare movies that feels like it was made specifically for its audience.”
Another said: “My comfort movie!! I love everything about this movie. From the music, to the transition scenes, to the dialogues, to Meryl Streep’s performance, all the way to the cute dumb look the boyfriend gets on his face.
“I have not one bad thing to say about this movie. If I could only watch one movie for the rest of my life, this would be it.”
A third added: “Anyone who didn’t give this 5 stars is clinically insane. Fantastic acting, compelling romance, hilarious moments, and heart-wrenching scenes. No cheesy moments, nothing derivative, and no plot holes. 10/10.”
A fourth commented: “One of my fav all time movies that I’m constantly using movie quotes from.”
On Google reviews, one fan branded the film as a “masterpiece” as another said it was an “eye-opener”. A third added: “A classic!! Definitely recommend! It just leaves you with a feeling of wanting more but at the same time, helps you to appreciate where you are.”
