Time to ditch your Kindle? Amazon finally launches something better this month

It’s been a very, very long time coming but Amazon is finally ready to unleash its all-new and ultimate Kindle Scribe to UK customers. This flagship e-reader was actually announced all the way back in October but, for a unknown reason, it’s only just about to start shipping out to those who have pre-ordered it.

If you are one of those fans who have ordered this new device, it seems you will be in for a treat with the latest Scribe getting a striking new look that features a flush front 10.2-inch glare-free display with more appealing white bezels rather than the black frame found on the current Scribe.

In the box is also a fully upgraded Premium Pen that Amazon promises will be more like writing on real paper. That should make it far nicer to scribble notes, write memos and add annotations to books and documents. This digital stylus also gets an upgraded design and shortcut button for faster switching between features.

Another addition to the new Scribe is something called Active Canvas which will automatically create space for your notes when writing on top of books. That makes it much easier to add notes as you read.

Other extras include being able to buy it with up to 64GB of storage, it can last for 12 weeks on a single charge, comes in a new Green colour and it has an auto-adjusting front light sensor for reading at night.

Just like the previous Scribe, there’s no way to install distracting apps with Amazon wanting this device to feel like a proper e-reader and notebook – not a fully-fledged tablet such as the iPad.

It looks like a very nice device but all this extra tech does come at a price. Thanks to Black Friday, you can currently pick up the original Scribe for just £219.99.

Sadly, if you want the latest and greatest Kindle Scribe 2024 it’s going to cost you at least £379.99. That’s for the entry-level 16GB model. You can get that price reduced by 20 percent if you trade in an old device which knocks over £70 off the cost so that is worth considering if you have something to get rid of.

If that hasn’t put you off, it’s available from December 4.

Express.co.uk hopes to bring you a full review of the new Scribe so watch this space.

Don’t forget that Amazon has also released three more new Kindles including a refreshed entry-level model along with a its first ever e-reader with a colour screen.
