2. Using blinds instead of curtains
Opting for blinds over curtains may seem like a good idea in terms of saving space, but it can impact heating expenses, according to the pro.
Unlike curtains, blinds offer minimal insulation, especially if households don’t have good-quality ones.
The expert added: “As a result, your indoor temperatures will fluctuate more rapidly, prompting increased reliance on heating to help you stay warm and cosy.
“For the best effect, try using thermal curtains or drapes as they provide the best additional insulation and enhance energy efficiency.”
When the sun is out, open the curtains fully to allow the sun to radiate into the home, helping to keep it heated.
When the sun goes down, close the curtains to retain the warmth which has gathered throughout the day.
The expert also recommended investing in thermal curtains as they work the best to keep heat in as well as to keep light out.
3. You have furniture pushed up to radiators
The expert continued: “Pushing furniture up against radiators is a costly oversight in interior design.
“This arrangement can obstruct heat circulation, causing inefficiencies in heating systems and leading to higher energy consumption.
“Whilst you’ll still be able to feel the benefit somewhat, you’ll feel even warmer if you allow the warm air to flow freely throughout the room.”
