If you’re hoping to get some extra greenery into your garden this year, planting a tree or two is a great way to do so.

There are certain trees you should plant before the end of February to ensure you’re getting them into the ground at the right time of year.

According to Ideal Home, you should plant silver birch trees now. These trees are commonly found in parks or lining streets but they make a great feature in the garden too.

Silver birches are one of the fast-growing privacy trees if you’re looking to shield your garden from neighbours or passers-by.

They’re not too expensive to buy as well if you’re looking for an affordable option.

These trees are striking, medium-sized and can reach around 30m in height, once grown, they will provide a light canopy and have elegant drooping branches.

If you’re hoping to plant a tree that could provide some food, February is also the perfect time to plant apple and pear trees.

An apple tree is easy to care for and if you’re a beginner with growing your own fruit, this could be the ideal option for you.

Alternatively, a pear tree could also be another option but if you do decide to grow one, it’s important to learn how to prune the tree properly.

There are many benefits to growing trees in your garden such as improving air quality, reducing rain runoff and providing shady spots for summer.

If you’re hoping to improve the appearance of your garden, trees are also good for this as they can add character to your outdoor space.

Having trees in your garden can be a good addition all year round. As the seasons change, your garden will be filled with colour from bright green leaves in summer to orange and red in autumn.

The trees won’t only benefit you but will also be valuable for wildlife in terms of food and shelter.
