During the winter months, it’s not uncommon to feel a bit bloated and sluggish. This could be due to the season, or perhaps your gut might need a reset.

If you’re experiencing frequent bloating, gas, constipation, or diarrhoea, it might be time to give your digestive system a reboot. Other signs that your diet may need adjusting include fatigue, brain fog, food cravings, skin issues or a weakened immune system.

Consuming nutritious foods can help restore balance to your gut and Instagram dietician Jessny, who runs the @makeitbrunch account, has shared her favourite soup recipe for when she needs a gut reset.

Her Golden Chickpea Orzo Soup is packed with protein, fibre and immunity-boosting ingredients like turmeric, ginger, chickpeas, miso and spinach.

Chickpeas can help reset the gut by providing fibre, prebiotics and protein, while turmeric balances gut bacteria thanks to its potent antioxidant curcumin.

This wholesome recipe is designed to promote digestion and longevity, all while delivering a comforting, flavourful meal.

Speaking about whipping up a nutritious bowl of soup at home, Jessny said: “I’m a dietitian and this is the soup I make to boost my immune system. It has 20 grams of protein and 15 plants per serving and comes together in under 30 minutes.”

She continued: “You start by roasting your veggies with spices, miso, and tahini. Then toss in chickpeas, broth, orzo and coconut milk. Let that cook, then mix in spinach and lemon before serving.”

Jessny, who hails from Canada, describes the recipe as “so simple, but so delicious.”

To truly reap the benefits of a gut reset, it’s recommended to avoid processed foods, refined sugar, artificial sweeteners, alcohol and caffeine, as well as inflammatory foods such as dairy, gluten and fried foods if they cause bloating or discomfort.
