SAN ANTONIO — You could hear them snickering, all over America, everywhere where they are convinced the Knicks are some kind of mirage a team of paper tigers. Oh yeah. You bet you could. You could hear them toast themselves for being so smart as they watched the Spurs surge to that 14-point lead in the third quarter, for not being fooled by the New York hype machine.
The Knicks?
We told you they were beating up on the JV!” they crowed.
Well, we tried to tell them something, too. We tried to tell ’em these Knicks were different, that these Knicks had found something. We tried to tell them that if there’s one team who isn’t frightened — is barely moved — by a second-half deficit, it’s these Knicks. You don’t win 11 games in a row in a lottery, after all. Nobody gets that lucky.
