Just because you don’t have a massive stately home with a huge garden, doesn’t mean you can’t still have a taste of luxury at home. From secluded garden rooms to fragrant, season-long blooms, there are countless ways to bring a touch of five-star style to your outdoor space.

With this in mind, Noah Mabey, Gardener at Thornbridge Hall, has shared his tips for a luxury-style garden in your own home. Speaking to Platinum Spas, he advised layering your plants, sharing two pairs that go together stunningly. He explained: “Thoughtful layering not only adds visual interest but also ensures the garden has something to offer in every season, keeping it engaging year-round.”

He continues: “Mix heights and textures to create depth and dimension in your planting scheme.

“Place larger shrubs or small trees at the back to form a backdrop, use mid-height plants like hydrangeas or roses to add structure, and bring in floaty perennials such as nepeta or geraniums towards the front for movement and softness. Dot bulbs like alliums, tulips, or daffodils throughout for bursts of seasonal colour.”

And this isn’t the only tip Noah has shared for adding a touch of glamour to your garden. For those with a larger garden space he recommends creating “garden rooms”.

This gardening strategy, which is a staple among hotel gardens, involves planting hedges, trees, or trellis to create intimate spaces.

However, if you don’t have the space for these separate areas, there are other methods for creating the perfect garden, and if you want to take more inspiration from hotel gardens, then sticking to a colour palette is one way to do so.

Noah says: “Less is more when it comes to hotel gardens – sticking to a clear, calm colour palette is best. Blue and green are timeless, or choose soft pinks and whites for a floaty, elegant look.

“The key is to resist the temptation to add too many different plants or colours, which can make the space feel cluttered rather than refined.”

Another tip is to consider the fragrance of the flowers you plant. Noah advises: “Osmanthus burkwoodii smells amazing in the spring and repeat-flowering roses will offer a gorgeous scent all summer long.

“I especially love to use herbs for fragrance in my garden – rosemary and lavender offer both structure and a lovely scent.”

He further advises aiming for a year-round interest in your garden, recommending yew balls or topiary to keep structure through the seasons.

You can also plant hydrangeas and red-stemmed dogwood for some stunning winter blooms.
