The Xbox game that revolutionised a genre is coming to PS5 after nearly 20 years

While August is a traditionally quiet time for new video game releases, this year has seen some high-profile games make an appearance on all major platforms.

New and upcoming releases include heavy-hitters like Mafia: The Old Country, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater and Madden NFL 26, alongside games closer to my heart such as Gradius Origins, Earthion, Heretic + Hexen and Shinobi: Art of Vengeance.

Video game fans are also just a few days away from the PlayStation release of one of the most influential third-person shooters of all time and a game that has always been synonomous with Xbox.

Nearly 20 years after first appearing on the Xbox 360, the Gears of War franchise is finally coming to PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC on August 26.

Gears of War Reloaded is a fully optimised and enhanced port of the Gears of War Ultimate Edition. It contains the original Gears of War campaign, which is now playable in 4K and with support for 120 frames-per-second gameplay.

It also features all of the post-release content for the game, including a bonus campaign act, various multiplayer maps and much more.

Speaking of online multiplayer, the game supports cross-progression and cross-play across PlayStation, Xbox and PC.

Released all the way back in 2006, the original Gears of War revolutionised the third-person shooter genre, particularly with its intuitive and cinematic cover system.

It also joined the likes of Call of Duty and Halo in helping to popularise online multiplayer on Xbox Live.

It’s great to see such a hugely popular and influential series finally come to PlayStation, and on the same day former PlayStation and PC exclusive Helldivers 2 makes its debut on Xbox.

Better yet, Argos customers can save £15 on Gears of War Reloaded for PS5 by signing up for a TopCashback account.

TopCashback is giving shoppers £15 cashback on purchases over £15.

To claim the deal, head over to TopCashback, sign up for an account and search for Argos. After clicking ‘Get Cashback Now’ on the Argos merchant page you’ll be redirected to the Argos website where you can shop as normal.

It’s then just a matter of adding Gears of War Reloaded to your basket and completing your purchase.

Once the sale has been verified (and times may vary), TopCashback will credit your account with £15. You can transfer the money into your bank once everything clears.

This essentially means you’re getting Gears of War Reloaded for £24.99 instead of £39.99.
