One Western film has not been met with rave reviews, in fact, quite the opposite. BloodRayne 2: Deliverance is a Western horror set in 1880s America. Directed by Uwe Boll, it is a sequel to the 2005 film BloodRayne and Natassia Malthe stars in the lead role. BloodRayne 2: Deliverance has been voted as the Worst Western of all Time by Collider. It described the picture as “ridiculous” and an “absurd copycat”.
The film’s synopsis reads: “When Billy the Kid, a vampire, wreaks havoc in the town of Montana and builds his own army, Rayne, a half-woman, half-vampire warrior, returns after 100 years to save them.”
BloodRayne 2: Deliverance has received generally negative reviews across the board. Rotten Tomatoes fans gave it a dismal 14%, with critics penning the film as “horrendous”.
One critic said: “The dialogue is pretty bad, and the acting is rough (especially with Zack Ward).
An audience reviewer said: “Honestly it’s somehow even worse than the first Bloodrayne film. Though it does hold the series’ first bearable performance in Zack Ward.”
Another said: “Tiring, pitiful, and sad. What is worse is that they used silver bullets to kill vampires. That completely goes against the vampire stories. Silver bullets only works on werewolves. Get it right people.”
A third chimed in: “Just when I think that it couldn’t get any worse, Uwe Boll makes BloodRayne 2, which is even more horrible than the original. I cannot even comment on how bad this movie is.”
Letterboxd users rank the film at 1.59 stars out of five.
One reviewer on the platform said: “BloodRayne hits the Wild West nearly a century after the first film took place. This one is several steps down from the original all around if you can believe it. There are none of the cast from the original who return for this outing, which was really a strong part of why that film wasn’t all terrible in my opinion. The new lead playing BloodRayne just seems lost onscreen.”
On the film, Collider said: “BloodRayne 2 is a painful and sluggish experience that focuses much less on the inherent comedy and absurdity of its premise, and instead only cares about the sex appeal of its lead actress. When it eventually tries to tap into its Western hook, it’s only blatantly copying Western films like Unforgiven and Tombstone to the point of abject disappointment.”
BloodRayne 2: Deliverance is available to stream on Amazon Prime.
