Parker Posey is no stranger to the silver screen, but what does she watch when she’s not in front of the camera?

The Hollywood veteran, who recently starred in hit drama The White Lotus, has shared her five favourite films. Posey has been making headlines for her role in the HBO series, in which she played fan-favourite Victoria Ratliff.

Following the show’s finale, movie-review platform Letterboxd has released a 2023 interview where the star revealed her top movies.

Opening Night by John Cassavetes was her first choice. The 1977 release is praised by critics and audiences alike, boasting an impressive 96 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes.

The iconic psychological drama follows an alcoholic actress, who is on the verge of a breakdown in the days leading up to the opening night of her latest play. Unfortunately for fans, Opening Night is not currently streaming in the UK.

Posey then named another iconic flick: “I’d say The Shining is probably one of my – it’s really up there.”

Directed by veteran filmmaker Stanley Kubrick, the 1980 horror is widely considered one of the scariest films of all time. It is currently available to purchase on digital storefronts, including Amazon Prime Video, Sky Store and Apple TV.

The Party Girl star also prasied a lesser-known French film starring Dune: Part Two actress Léa Seydoux.

She gushed: “You know, I saw this French film that I really loved recently called France. That was amazing!”

Released in 2021, the French-language drama follows a celebrity journalist whose life is rocked by a tragic car accident. The Bruno Dumont film is sadly unavailable to stream in the UK.

“I’m also a big documentary fan, like Grey Gardens is one of my favourite movies,” Posey continued.

Another 1970s release, the documentary follows the daily lives of former First Lady Jackie Kennedy’s relatives; Edie Bouvier Beale and her mother, Edith.

Despite its simple concept, the film has received overwhelming praise over the decades, with Rotten Tomatoes pundits scoring it a stellar 94 percent rating.

Although Letterboxd only asked the actress for four films, she was eager to give one more. “[There’s] This [Abbas] Kiarostami movie called Close-Up I love a lot,” she said.

Based on true events, the drama follows a man who impersonated Iranian filmmaker Mohsen Makhmalbaf and conned his way into a rich family’s home, under the pretence that they would star in his upcoming film. Close-Up is not currently streaming in the UK.

Parker Posey stars in The White Lotus Season 3, streaming now on Sky.
