The UK’s ‘top picnic spot’ revealed with ‘iconic panorama’ | Travel News | Travel

Summer is around the corner, and with so many parks across the UK, it can be hard to choose the perfect spot for a sunny afternoon — spreading out a blanket and unpacking your wicker basket filled with picnic goods. Luckily, studies have revealed the top 10 most popular picnic destinations in the UK, based on search volume and social media activity.

It is nostalgic to look back on previous summers and share stories of what you did, the places you visited, and those with whom you shared the memories. It doesn’t matter whether you are planning a romantic date, a family afternoon out with little bites to eat, or a get-together with friends — finding that picture-perfect picnic spot can make or break your outdoor dining experience. Some places just have that special something that draws crowds year after year

Primrose Hill in north London takes the crown as the UK’s most popular picnic destination, with the capital’s Regent’s Park and Hampstead Heath rounding out the city’s clean sweep of the top three. Sitting almost 63 metres above sea level, this iconic Primrose Hill is home to one of the city’s six protected viewpoints — where carefully trimmed trees ensure the skyline stays uninterrupted.

Rich in British history, the hill is also home to ‘Shakespeare’s Tree,’ an oak planted in 1864 to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the Bard’s birth. Today, that same slope draws thousands looking to escape the buzz of the city without ever leaving it.Primrose Hill sees an impressive 12,100 monthly searches — more than any other UK picnic location — and boasts a staggering 1.36 million hashtags on Instagram. With its sweeping views, central location, and timeless charm, it’s no wonder this London favourite continues to set the standard for outdoor escapes.

Regent’s Park secures second place with 73.99 points, showing that size and variety matter. While generating fewer searches (320 monthly), this royal park dominates social media with nearly 2 million Instagram posts – the highest count on the list.

Its 6,473 five-star reviews reflect the park’s incredible diversity, from rose gardens to open spaces, making it a picnic paradise that caters to every taste and style.

Completing London’s top-three sweep, Hampstead Heath scores 67.65 points by offering wild beauty within city limits. With 880 monthly searches and 1.4 million Instagram hashtags, this ancient heathland proves that Londoners crave natural escape.

The Heath’s 1,771 perfect reviews celebrate its mix of woodlands, meadows, and swimming ponds, creating a countryside feel just minutes from central London.
