The UK’s top 10 most walkable cities to visit this autumn ranked – full list | UK | Travel

Many travellers consider walking the best way to truly experience a city, and in autumn, this becomes an even more scenic option. With golden and burgundy leaves, crisp air, and fewer crowds, exploring on foot offers both comfort and beauty. The UK is home to the most gorgeous and archaic landmarks that make you feel like you’re transported to a fairytale in the fall, but what is the best city to walk in?

A recent study by Preply revealed the top 10 most walkable cities in the UK, highlighting the destinations best suited for autumn adventures. Researchers analysed key factors such as the distance between major attractions, the time it takes to travel between them, and the number of steps required to fully explore each location. At the top of the list is a stunning historic city celebrated for its accessibility, beauty, and unique charm during the autumn months. But do you agree with this ranking? Discover more below.

10. Bath

Bath may be undeniably beautiful, but it failed to rank favourably as one of the UK’s most walkable destinations. The city’s main attractions are spread out, with nearly seven miles separating them.

An expert at Preply commented: “Thanks to a top attraction – West of England Falconry – sitting outside the city centre, Bath ranks as the UK’s least walkable city break location.

“Including the falconry, it takes 14,280 steps to reach its best five attractions. However, if you choose to skip the falconry and stay within the city centre, Bath is a very walkable city which still has a lot to offer explorers.

“Other top attractions, including The Roman Baths, Bath Abbey, Pulteney Bridge and No. 1 Royal Crescent Georgian museum, are all within easy distance.”

9. Cambridge

Cambridge, one of the UK’s most iconic university cities, has its main attractions spread out over more than two hours’ walk. Staying within the university area makes the city relatively easy to explore on foot.

However, the expert at Preply explained: “Similarly, the out-of-centre attraction of Cambridge American Cemetery and Memorial relegates Cambridge to the second least walkable city break.

“But other great attractions, including the Fitzwilliam Museum, The Cambridge Gin Laboratory, and King’s College Chapel, are easily walkable. And if you need a break from your feet, you can relax on a punt tour of the River Cam, which takes in beautiful views of the college.”
