The UK town further from a station that any other – 100 miles away | Travel News | Travel

One of the most remote towns in the UK, which is 100 miles away from the nearest train station, is a stunning place to visit even if it is difficult to get to. The UK is full of scenic seaside towns, many of which are popular with visitors during the summer months. However, there are others you may not have heard of before and that might be because they are some of the most remote towns in the country.

One of those places is Campbeltown in Scotland. Campbeltown is located in the west of Scotland on Campbeltown Loch on the Kintyre Peninsula. It is a fishing port and a hub for Scottish whiskey, and it is perhaps one of the most stunning places on the island of Britain. Surrounded by beautiful Scottish landscapes, it is a stunning place to visit for those who love to hike or simple drive around some scenic spots.

Campbeltown is located across the water from the Isle of Arran, another stunning place to visit in Scotland. But let’s bring it back to Campbeltown itself.

Although it is a small town, it was once considered the whiskey capital of the world. Today, three distilleries are in operation here but at one time, there were an impressive 34 distilleries making whiskey here.

There are guided tours of these distilleries, so this town is a must-visit for whiskey lovers. Even if you are not a seasoned whiskey drinker, these tours will offer you a unique insight into the cultural significance of the drink and the culture of the area in general.

Additionally, Campbeltown is a great base for exploring this stunning part of Scotland. As previously mentioned, it is close to the stunning Isle of Arran, which is considered one of the most naturally stunning islands in all of the UK.

Plus, you can easily get to places like Davaar Island, Westport Beach, An Ceardach Garden and Dunaverty Rock.

There are even more opportunities to explore the surroundings of this gorgeous corner of Scotland.

In fact, ferry services run between Campbeltown and Northern Ireland, meaning you can visit famous sites the Giant’s Causeway while staying in the area.

While it is certainly remote, getting to Campbeltown isn’t too difficult. West Coast Motors operates four coaches a day to and from Glasgow, taking around 4.5 hours, Explore Campbeltown says,

You can also get here via boat which departs from Ballycastle in Northern Ireland as well as Ardrossan which is easily accessible from Glasgow.

Plus, Loganair gets you from Glasgow to Campbeltown in just 30 minutes with two flights per day between Monday and Friday every week.
